When you are in job search mode, or even when you’re not, you are being evaluated whenever and wherever you go. It’s like being back in high school all over again. Feel free to wipe the sweat off your brow before continuing. A good friend of mine tells a story about how he landed a job because of a chat he had while watching his son play soccer. While speaking with a fellow parent on the bleachers, he discovered that the parent was the owner of a technology recruiting firm in New Jersey. Lo and behold, the owner was searching for a new recruiter to add to his team and my friend knew of an IT recruiter who was looking. Bing bang boom and he had a new job within the next few weeks. Absolutely Abby’s Advice: The next time you’re bored on line at the supermarket, try chatting with your also-bored line buddy rather than listening to your iPod or reading the trade rags. You may find that your line buddy is suddenly your new boss (or your best friend’s). |

For years I have been talking about the concept of the Never-Ending Interview. Sounds scary?? It should.
